Untreated Mental Illness is at epic proportion in the U.S. today and the segment “Untreated mental illness an imminent danger?” on 60 Minutes this evening is a poignant reminder of this. More than half the population with schizophrenia are untreated, and in part, our society faces these consequences in the form of catastrophic repercussions: school shootings, murders and other violent acts. The 60 Minutes segment went on to describe how our criminal justice department has an unfortunate hand dealing with mentally ill patients and that our prisons and jails have now replaced the insane asylums of yesterday.

I was happy to see a media outlet with as much clout as 60 Minutes report on such an important situation in our country.
